USTA Junior Team Tennis League to start in January

Jacquie Turpie is coordinator for South Palm Beach County

GrassRoots Tennis Llc, a United States Tennis Association (USTA) Community Tennis Association, is launching a new USTA Jr. Team Tennis (JTT) League in January 2008.

Jacquie Turpie, the founder of Grassroots Tennis and a USPTA and PTR certified tennis teaching professional is also the USTA Area League Coordinator for south Palm Beach County.

Turpie said, “The Jr. Team Tennis League is operated under the auspices of the USTA, and provides a wonderful environment for junior players, no matter what their skill level, to engage in a competitive environment, learning not just the skills, but also the sportsmanship inherent in tennis.

“Previously, the JTT League was open to Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced in divisions from 10 & Under all the way through to 18 & Under. We are starting the 2008 JTT League Spring Session, with four divisions; Intermediate level 12s’ and 14 & Under, plus Advanced level for Rookie Tournament juniors at 10s’ and 12 & Under.

There will also be a Summer Session leading to the State Finals, and a Fall Session, so hopefully the program will grow to include beginners and additional age divisions.”

Some of the clubs already committed to the new league include: Boca Bath & Tennis, Boca Falls, Broken Sound CC, Deer Creek Tennis Resort, Delray Beach Tennis Center, Mission Bay, Evert Tennis Academy, Mizner CC, St Andrews School, Seasons, South County Regional Park, The Oaks, & Woodfield CC.

USTA membership is required. There is a JTT League fee of $28, which includes a team T-shirt. If the junior is not already a member, they can pay an additional $18 for the annual USTA membership fee, which includes all the benefits of the organization.

The Spring session will culminate in a grand Tennis Carnival (at a venue to be decided), with all team members getting together for an award ceremony and a fun tennis time.
