PROPEL
Dubliner Fundraiser

Boca will be wearing the green even after St. Patrick’s Day thanks to a PROPEL fundraising party hosted by the Dubliner Pub in Mizner Park, Boca Raton. Known as a “Ceili,” this traditional Irish event is set for Sunday, April 6 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The fundraiser will feature customary Irish fare including corned beef, prime rib sliders, crab cakes, Irish cheeses, smoked salmon and more. In addition, the festivities will include performances by River Dance- style entertainers and bag pipers.  “We are delighted that the Dubliner has agreed to support PROPEL by hosting this fun-filled event,” says Pamela Willis, the organization’s special event chair. “This will be a delightful afternoon the entire family will enjoy, and we look forward to sharing the exciting programs PROPEL is launching in our community”. Milhous Museum Event

Caring Hearts Auxiliary of Florida Atlantic University’s Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center are offering a rare opportunity to visit the Milhous Museum, an exceptional private museum, as part of its “Shades of Green” event to be held March 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.   Hosts and honorary chairs Bob and Gail Milhous promise an enjoyable evening.  The Milhous Museum features many one-of-a-kind collectibles from the turn of the century, including classic automobiles, airplanes and a fully operational carousel.  “Florida Atlantic University’s Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center is truly a gift to our community, providing a special place for families to bring loved ones who are experiencing memory loss,” said Patricia Thomas, Caring Hearts board member.  Thomas is co-chairing Shades of Green with fellow board member Deborah Lindstrom.  Tickets are $200.  For more information or to RSVP, call Elaine Rainwater at 561-297-1102.

Kids In Distress
2nd Annual “All That Jazz”

Kids In Distress will host the second annual “All That Jazz” an evening of dining and gaming on April 18, at the Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach. The event will raise funds and awareness of National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. Co-Chairs are Jeffrey and Nancy Baskies, and Gregg Weiss. Guests will enjoy a sophisticated evening that includes auctions, dining and gaming. Proceeds from All That Jazz benefit Kids In Distress, which since 1979 has had a demonstrated record of caring for and treating abused and neglected children through a full continuum of care that includes therapeutic interventions, shelter care, abuse prevention, foster care and adoption services.  If you ever suspect that child abuse and/or neglect is occurring, call the Florida Abuse Hotline at 1-800-96-ABUSE. Bulgari Committee Brunch

In celebration of its new store opening at Town Center at Boca Raton and to honor the grand opening Host Committee, Bulgari hosted a brunch for the March of Dimes at the home of Patti Carpenter.
Bulgari’s grand opening celebration took place March 20. Host committee members were: Carolyn and Chuck Arnold, Maria and Gary Brown, Patti Carpenter, Rebecca Coleman, Bonnie and Jon Kaye, Dorothy and Blake MacDiarmid, Rocki Rockingham, Kristen and Kevin Ross, Jan Savarick, Roxanna and Bill Trinka, Kate Volman, and Denise and Jordan Zimmerman. A percentage of sales though March 23 benefited March of Dimes. “March of Dimes is proud to join forces with Bulgari as we work together towards a day when all babies are born healthy.” said Executive Director Shanna St. John. Islands in the Sun Fundraiser

The University Club of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation Inc., held its annual fundraiser, 2 to benefit the FAU Libraries, as well as academic and scholarship programs.  This year’s event, Islands in the Sun, brought more than 100 people to the Boca West Country Club for brunch, a silent and live auction and dancing.  Boca Raton News publisher, Craig Swill and his wife Lisa, served as honorary advisors.   A jazz combo from FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters provided background and dancing music.  Graduate students Trent Blanton and Rebecca Simon, performed a Broadway revue. This year’s committee was chaired by Regina Vetto and included Sarah Bialy, Alene Brewer, Claire Carney, Patsy Jones, Carol Friedland, Elfriede Lynch, Gay Garlid, Donna McCaffrey, Joanne High, Shirley Gerzon, Pat Pearcy, Jeanne Gifford, Juan Querubin, Barry Goldin, Jane Regan, Marlis Hadeed and Rana Vitha. American Red Cross
 2nd Annual HEROES Campaign

More than 100 people gathered at Old Calypso restaurant in Delray Beach on March 5 to kick off the 2nd Annual HEROES for the American Red Cross fundraising event that runs through April 2. The Red Cross is looking for both community and business volunteers to become HERO’s by committing to raising $1,000 through April 2 with 100% of the money raised going to the South County Service Center of the Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter.  The current amount raised is $81,000 and the Chapter is still looking for philanthropists who would like to join the campaign.   Upcoming HEROES events include an all-day event at Pollo Campero restaurant on March 19, a wine tasting at Village Market on March 20, Owner of the Night at MoQuila Restaurant and Tequila Bar on March 27 and a wrap party on April 2 at Old Calypso.  For more information on becoming a HERO, call 561-718-5602.

Annual Butterfly Ball

The Lupus Foundation of America, Southeast Florida Chapter announced its annual Butterfly Ball broke all fundraising records by raising almost $700,000. The black-tie gala was held Feb. 23 at Mar-A-Lago Club in Palm Beach. Mrs. Anne Bright and Ms. Stacie Weisman chaired the night aptly entitled “A Night of Dreams and Illusions.”   “It was a fantastic evening only made possible by the support of all of our wonderful underwriters and Committee people and for that we will always be grateful,” said Stacie Weisman, Butterfly Ball Co-Chair. Anne Bright, Butterfly Ball Co-Chair, former chapter chair and longtime lupus sufferer was recognized by her son, Matthew Mellon, for her dedication to the fight for a cure. Michael & Madelyn Savarick Season

The Symphony of the Americas Guest Artist Series, 2007-8 has been named the Michael & Madelyn Savarick, 20th Anniversary Season. A recent  performance took place at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton. Guest artist was baritone, Doug Crosley. The Symphony performs outreach concerts in various communities including: Weston, Coral Springs, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton. Symphony presentations are captured on PBS and compact disc recordings, distributed nationally and internationally. Symphony of the Americas is lead by Maestro James Brooks-Bruzzese, Artistic Director, and Renée LaBonte, Vice President.

Loeb.  The event welcomed museum patrons and notable members

Dancing with the Sandoway Stars

Sandoway House Nature Center’s Dancing with the Sandoway StarsGala raised over $53,000. Delray Beach City Commissioner Gary Eliopoulos won the top honor, out dancing Delray Beach CRA Executive Director Diane Colonna, Former Delray Beach Mayor Jay Alperin and former supermodel Jill Chiappone. Each dancer was partnered with professional dancers from La Mystique, who provided entertainment throughout the evening for over 200 guests.

Eliopoulos and his partner, Valia, were the audience and judges’ favorites, dancing to disco super hit, “It’s Raining Men.” The gala was chaired by Fran Marincola, Carolyn Patton, Joyce Slominski and Yvonne Templeton. Grand benefactors were Mark and Yvonne Templeton.
