Last weekend was society super weekend!
It all started Friday with a transformation at Fabulous Colours at Spalano in Boca Center. I arrived to find makeup artist Eric Braunstein putting the finishing touches to Nicole Flier’s visage. Nicole was preparing for her “Shades of Red” fundraising party at Big City Tavern. The event raised over $7,000 for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign.
Then it was over to the Marriott for Boca Helping Hands’ Annual Monopoly Tournament. As I entered the room a surreal sight met my eyes. World champion golfer Bernhard Langer, Center of the Arts head, Charlie Siemon, philanthropist Patti Carpenter and 120 others were all playing monopoly! Who knew Boca took Monopoly so seriously--actually everybody enjoyed themselves to the tune of $92,000 towards Boca Helping Hands’ capital campaign!
Saturday I was in Wyoming-actually it West Boynton Beach—very West—at the American Cancer Society’s Inaugural Cattle Barons’ Ball. The venue was the amazing “Equus” equestrian community’s club house. Not just designer décor here, but a Ralph Lauren-inspired version of a deluxe dude ranch! Committee members Bob and Sheila Jaffe, Salvatore Conza and others and sponsors like the Rubin’s did a great job with the event-down to the blue bandana table napkins and Stetson hats topping off the lasso-roped table arrangements.
Congratulations y’all!
Sunday I found myself at the Annual Zonta Jazz Brunch at Boca West. It was the first event of three for the day as I explained to the Countess de Hoernle. Who smiled and said, “I have five!” Yes-- back to the gym!
Next on the agenda was the Concours D’Elegance at the Boca Resort & Club to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Broward. My favorite memory of the afternoon, besides the red and black 2005 Lamborghini Murcielago, was watching four gentlemen tail-gating off the back of a Rolls Royce!
Sunday night was the Young Friends of the Palm Beach Film Festival Oscar® Night Party at Bogart’s at Muvico. Judging by the turnout (over 300 people) there’s a lot of local interest in the movie industry. The film festival, April 10 through 17, has just scored a coup by snagging Jason Reitman, director of Oscar-winning movie, “Juno” for an award to be presented at its legendary gala.
Wednesday, I caught up with Unicorn Children’s Foundation co–presidents, Valeria Rosenbloom and Juliette Ezagui. The “Key to the Golden Palace” gala takes place Friday at Mar-a-Lago. There are only 20 tickets left, so call Sharon Alexander at 561-620-9377,
to see live camels at close range in Palm Beach! The auction items are some of the most exclusive of the year and for the first time the foundation has opened online bidding before the gala. Over half the items already have bids. Still time to be on the 1963 Rolls Royce once owned by actor Rex Harrison!
And that is life in Boca…
