JOHN TEMPLE BOONE, JR.
John Temple. Boone Jr. passed peacefully from this life at his home in the company of family on April 7, 2008 after a courageous battle against a brain tumor. He exhibited a strong positive attitude, great perseverance and grace throughout his illness. John was born in East Orange, New Jersey on December 6, 1935, the son of John Temple Boone and Lydia Williams Boone. He was predeceased by both his parents and his sister, Jewel Dian Boone. John graduated from Hopkins Grammar School, New Haven, Ct. in 1953 and from Washington & Lee University in 1957. In 1965, he married Katherine Ker Shepard of Cleveland, Ohio. John enjoyed a successful business career in advertising and consumer products marketing. He held management positions at American Home Products, STP Corp., and Alberto Culver where he ended his career as Vice-President of the North American Consumer Products Division. While beginning his career in New York City, John’s professional life moved him to Boca Raton, Florida, and Chicago, Illinois before settling on Wilmington, North Carolina for his retirement. In 1998, John and his wife Kay retired and began sharing time between Wilmington, North Carolina and more recently Melvin Village, New Hampshire. Throughout his life, John was blessed with family and friends with whom he shared his passion for golf, his love of hunting and appreciation of gardening. John’s enthusiasm, humor and charm, long enjoyed by family and friends will be greatly missed. John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Katherine Ker Shepard Boone, and his 3 children: H. Shepard (Shep) Boone and his wife, Jennifer, Katherine Dunbar (Dunbar) Boone Okeson and her husband Lars, and John Temple (J.T.) Boone III. The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to all of John’s many friends who sent their best wishes and never ending support throughout his battle with cancer; and to the many people who worked compassionately and tirelessly to make John’s last month comfortable and peaceful.
