Macy’s is an American institution, and one of America’s most famous retail stores.
Today is the second day of celebrations at Macy’s At the Town Center at Boca Raton to mark the completion of the store’s renovation and expansion.
Macy’s prime time TV campaign features many celebrity brands exclusive to the brand and the Boca store will be a show case for Martha Stewart, Tommy Bahama, Donald Trump and others according to General Manager Susan Maupin
“The expansion and addition of a third floor has allowed us to relocate Home, Children’s, and Intimate Apparel to the 3rd floor, while expanding cosmetics, handbags, shoes, and women’s apparel on the 1st and 2nd levels. We‘ve even added a Taste Bar, where customers can sit down, relax and grab a bite to eat after a day of shopping,” said Macy’s Florida Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Julie Greiner
One of the highlights in the cosmetics department is the store’s new Colorlab Custom Cosmetics counter, one of only three locations in Macy’s across the country. Customers can select and custom-blend fresh-made cosmetics matched to skin type and color. Fashionable beauty brand, Benefit, has also been added.
The shoe and Fine Jewelry departments on the first floor have now doubled in size. The second floor is now dedicated to women’s fashions and has the second largest Ralph Lauren department in the country -- along with Macy’s exclusive brands INC International Concepts and T Tahari.
The third floor is also now home to the intimate apparel department, plus expanded home and kid departments, including a new Hannah Montana clothing line.
The History
On the morning of March 6, 1929, millions of Americans opened The New York Times to find a headline that would send the business and retail world into a spin of excited chatter and speculation - "Abraham & Straus and Filene's to Unite." The announcement marked the beginning of the evolution of what was to become one of the largest and most influential corporations in retail history.
Federated Department Stores, Inc. (renamed Macy's, Inc. in June 2007) was born through the combination of Abraham & Straus of Brooklyn, Filene's of Boston, F&R Lazarus & Co. of Columbus, OH, and Bloomingdale's of New York. Each of these retailers was an established, prominent presence with a rich history of its own. In joining together, they agreed to maintain their separate identities while linking their financial interests. These pioneers recognized the immense opportunity that lay before them and on November 25, 1929, Federated Department Stores was incorporated as a revolutionary new company in American retail.
