Boca Raton Fire Rescue responded to a call about a gas line rupture and fire about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Public Information Officer Frank Correggio said firefighters found a ruptured line in front of a home on St. Albans Drive. He said the gas line was apparently ruptured by an employee from Florida Power & Light who was working in that area.
When fire crews arrived, he said, they found flames shooting about 10 feet in the air. Residents from nearby homes were evacuated and the neighborhood was closed. Northwest Seventh Avenue was shut down from NW 13th Street to Glades Road.
Firefighters found the gas line and used a special clamp to secure the leak. The fire went out as soon as the line was crimped shut.
He said firefighters also used a special meter to detect leaking gas in the area. No gas was found. Florida Utility Services was called and repaired the ruptured line.
Correggio said no one was injured and no homes were damaged. The street and neighborhood were closed for about an hour while crews handled the incident.
