Delran honored for support of employees in military

On behalf of the city of Delray Beach, Fire-Rescue Chief David James accepted the “Patriotic Employer Award during a presentation ceremony held May 1 at Fire-Rescue Headquarters.
Sponsored by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the award is given to employers who support employees who are members of the military. All members of the National Guard and Reserve are eligible to submit nominations.
Delray Beach Fire-Rescue Paramedic/Firefighter Odell Lewis, a member of the National Guard, nominated the city for its support of personnel serving in the Guard and Reserve Forces.
Lt. Lewis, currently on active duty, was unable to attend the ceremony. In his absence, Florida Committee ESGR representative Donald B. Sherman presented the award to Chief James and Fire-Rescue friends of Lt. Lewis.
“The city of Delray Beach supports the National Guard and its dedication to protect our country,” said Chief James. “Delray Beach supports our employees in their service to our country and if they are called on, their job is secure when they come home.”
