Boca Raton Community Hospital has announced the appointment of Barbara Lamia, a registered nurse with more than 32 years experience, as the new director of cardiology at Boca Raton Community Hospital.
In addition, Cheri Roberson has been named the director of cardiovascular services at Boca Raton Community Hospital.
In her new position, Lamia will oversee and manage the hospital’s inpatient and outpatient cardiac diagnostic services in the hospital’s three state-of-the-art laboratories: Cardiac Catheterization, Electrophysiology and Echocardiography.
She has been employed at Boca Raton Community Hospital since 2006, serving as a clinical specialist, nurse and educator for cardiovascular services. She has provided classroom and bedside training to cardiovascular services staff; managed the orientation process for new employees in the catheterization lab, telemetry unit and critical care areas and developed initiatives to further improve patient satisfaction.
Previously, Lamia worked for 28 years at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, first as a critical care registered nurse, assistant manager for 23 years and then as a registered nurse in its cardiac catheterization lab.
Lamia is a registered nurse in Florida and New York, and has been designated a critical care registered nurse by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She is certified in basic life support and advanced cardiac life support by the American Heart Association.
Lamia earned her master’s degree, summa cum laude, in nursing education from Nova Southeastern University and her bachelor’s of science degree, summa cum laude, in nursing from Barry University. She earned her practical nursing degree in Hempstead, N.Y. and registered nursing degree from Helene Fuld School of Nursing, Harlem, N.Y.
The Lynn Heart Institute at BRCH opened in 2006.
Service Initiatives
Robertson will direct and evaluate patient care – which includes the creation and implementation of customer service initiatives to foster the highest level of patient satisfaction – within the hospital’s intensive care clinical areas.
She will also oversee daily operations, which includes staffing, performance reviews, budgets and the creation and revision of nursing protocols, policies and procedures.
Roberson has served as a registered nurse in the Boca Raton Community Hospital cardiovascular intensive care unit since the opening of the Christine E. Lynn Heart Institute in 2006. As a certified nurse, she primarily provided nursing care for post-operative open-heart patients, including assisting physicians during procedures and acute patient care.
Prior to working at Boca Raton Community Hospital, Roberson gained professional experience as a cardiac intensive care nurse and a licensed practical nurse in the telemetry/post-open heart program at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center.
She is certified in basic life support and advanced cardiac life support by the American Heart Association, and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, a nurses’ honor society. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix and became a licensed practical nurse at North Technical Educational School.
