FROM STAFF REPORTS
In a first for Spanish River High School, students and teachers will unite to showcase their performance talents at this year’s annual fundraiser, “A Celebration of the Arts,” to be held at the Gallery Center in Boca Raton Saturday, Feb. 23.
“This year’s event is slightly different than in years past, and we are really excited about that,” says PTSA President Lorraine Bedick. “Fundraisers are a necessary part of life at public schools, and to be able to take something necessary and turn it into an avenue to showcase talented teachers and students is wonderful.”
Spanish River High School Principal Susan Atherley also has high expectations for the event. “We have so many talented students and faculty members,” she said. “You can expect to be totally entertained with student artwork and performances.”
Students and teachers will perform throughout the evening in different sections of the gallery about every 15 minutes, while parents, faculty and other attendees wander through the various sections of the gallery. Singing (solos and group), dancing and piano playing are several of the acts planned for the evening.
Fuji of Boca Raton is catering the event, and will be featuring specialties such as lobster bombs, Peking duck, lamb chops and their Osaka Tuna.
A sushi chef will be on hand for the evening, and Geisha girls will be serving sake and tending to the open bar.
Last year, Spanish River’s auction, held at Robb & Stuckey’s, raised more than $70,000 for the athletics department. This year, funds raised are allocated for The Arts.
“A Celebration of the Arts” is open to the public. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by calling (561) 241-2200 or online at www.palmbeach.k12.fl.us/SpanishRiverHS.
