Barton Center hosts Mother’s Day breakfast for single moms

Published May 5th, 2008

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Everyone associates May with Mother’s Day and gifts.

“But not all single mothers are able to receive gifts from their children,” said Wayne Barton, founder of the Wayne Barton Study Center in Boca Raton.

“Many single mothers struggle just to put food on the table and try to maintain a roof over the family’s heads. Children are too young to work and the single mothers can’t afford to give them an allowance for chores they do around the house.”

He said the Wayne Barton Center and Barton’s Boosters Inc. will host a Mother’s Day Breakfast for all single mothers from the South County, Palm Beach area Saturday, May 10 at 8 a.m. at the Wayne Barton Study Center, 269 NE 14th St., Boca Raton.

All the food will be donated by Whole Foods Market’s Boca Raton location. Wayne said he will be cooking breakfast for these mothers.

“This day is for the single moms,” he said. “It is a small way to say that in spite of all the struggles you go through, social and economic, you have been able to preserve the family.

Each single mother will also go into a “Gift Room” and pick out gifts for themselves. Every household item has been donated by the Crate & Barrel Store at Town Center at Boca Raton mall.

At the end of the program, every mother that attends will also receive a bouquet of flowers from the kids.

There will be a guest speaker.

Barton’s Boosters focuses on the health, welfare and education of all children in Palm Beach County and the surrounding areas.
