Delray Beach Film Festival kicks off Tuesday

The Delray Beach Film Festival will begin Tuesday, May 6, and run through May 11.

Barry Bostwick, actor, singer, Tony and Golden Globe recipient and star in some 21 films, including the cult classic, “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award and will host a Rocky Horror picture costumed screening Thursday.

Also, three local directors will be unveiling their films at the Delray Beach Film Festival.

Sanjeev Sirpal is flying in from Los Angeles to his hometown of Delray to showcase his film, “Screw Cupid.”

Todd Vittum is unveiling his doomsday film, “Elixir,” which he characterizes as “Rocky” meets “Dancing with the Stars.”

Writer/Producer/Director Stella Oliveros premieres her first film,  “Pretty in Red” based on her own life experiences in Columbia and her adoptive hometown of Lake Worth, Fla.

Musical star Jana is coming from New York City to perform live opening night and to release her latest music video. She was a 2007 Grammy nominee and a Nammy (Native American Music Awards) winner in 2007.

Among films showing this week are “Hollywood Singing and Dancing” which just captured top honors at the San Luis Obispo Film Festival; “Idiots and Angels,” which will be literally flown to Florida by its Oscar-winning director Bill Plympton fresh from the Tribeca Film Festival; “1000 Journals,” honored at the Berlin Film Festival and the Israeli love story, “Homeland.”

The festival will also hold an Extreme Sports Film Day where the nation’s top professional surfers, including Scott Posner, will be showcased in the surf at Delray Beach.  There will be a Kid’s Day on Saturday, May 10.

NYU Film School, Columbia University, University of Miami Film School, Chapman Film School, FSU and 10 other university film schools are showcasing films at the festival.
