Boca ceremony to honor soldier killed in Iraq

Published June 17th, 2008

FROM STAFF REPORTS

A memorial service and benefit in honor of Air Force Tech Sgt. Anthony Capra, who was killed in Iraq April 9, will be held Sunday, June 22, at American Legion Post 277 at 141 NW 20th St., Boca Raton. It begins at 1 p.m., with a ceremony at 2:30 p.m.

Capra is the grandson of Ed Oleksak, a member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 36, in Boca Raton.  A donation of $10 is requested. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided.

An airman who had already earned a Bronze Star for an earlier deployment to Iraq, Capra, of Hanford, Calif., died near an area called Golden Hills, about six miles west of Balad Air Base, of wounds sustained when he encountered an improvised explosive device.

In May 2006, Capra was among seven airmen from the group presented Bronze Stars for service in Iraq.  His other decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal presented in 2006 and Air Force Achievement Medal presented in May 2002.
