• The 2008 South Florida Legal Guide has named Daniel R. Levine,
a shareholder with the Boca Raton law firm Shapiro, Blasi, Wasserman
& Gora P.A., a “Top Up & Comer”. Joining him on
this list is Robin I. Cohen, an associate with the firm. Compiled
since 2000, the South Florida Legal Guide “Up & Comers”
are selected by peer attorneys practicing in the area. Those honored
were selected from an initial list of more than 1,200 attorneys.
• The GEO Group, based in Boca Raton, has appointed Gary Johnson
as regional vice president of GEO's Central Region, which oversees
GEO's current operations in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana and is responsible
for business development activities in the central United States.
Johnson will begin his duties Jan. 2. "As a former executive
director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Johnson has
extensive experience managing a large and complex correctional organization,”
said George C. Zoley, chairman of the board and chief executive officer
at GEO.
• Boca Raton-based Office Depot is launching its fourth Green
Book, a catalog of nearly 3,000 products featuring a wide range of
environmental attributes. The 2007-2008 Green Book is designed to
provide businesses with a variety of useful products as well as guidance
on creating an environmentally preferable office.
• Hamid Hashemi, founder and former president of Muvico Theaters,
has bought Premier Aviation of Boca Raton LLC from Muvico Holdings
LLC. The price, according to Angelo & Banta, P.A., which represented
Hashemi, was more than $25 million. Premier Aviation owns a 15-acre
fixed base operation, Avitat Boca Raton, and other development property
at the Boca Raton Airport. Hashemi has been involved with Avitat Boca
Raton since its start. He said he plans to add a full-service restaurant
and an office building on the property.
